24/7 medical care for heart patients

Approximately two million people in Germany suffer from cardiac insufficiency with some 10% being added each year. Their hearts are too weak to pump enough blood through their bodies. According to the German Federal Statistical Office, cardiac insufficiency was the third most common cause of death and the second most common reason for inpatient treatment last year. The clinical study, “Partnership for the heart,” conducted by Charité Berlin, found that constant motoring and early recognition of acute situations can save lives and lower the number of hospital stays.

    24-hour care wherever you are

The first telemedicine network in Brandenburg is a collaboration of the Brandenburg and Cottbus clinics, the health insurance company AOK Nordost, GETEMED, the State of Brandenburg’s Ministry of Environment, Health and Consumer Protection and Deutsche Telekom.

Connected end-devices such as scales or blood pressure monitors will transmit vital data of patients receiving telemedical care automatically and wirelessly directly into that patient’s file. Telekom is connecting the hospitals and family physicians with telemedicine workstations, while providing those involved with telephone, Internet and mobile network connections. Telekom is also providing the electronic patient file system.

Doctors will have access to information such as patients’ EKG, oxygen saturation and blood pressure values and/or information on a patient’s weight via the telemedicine network. That will enable doctors to remotely determine the patient’s state of health and intervene if necessary. According to Professor Dr. med. Michael Oeff, chief of staff at the Städtisches Klinikum Brandenburg, the network will help doctors recognize changes in a patient’s state early on and take the appropriate measures.
Doctors are expected to be able to monitor their patients’ health around the clock in the near future via the telemedicine network.

Greater efficiency in the healthcare sector

Previous research has shown that the frequency of hospital admittance can be reduced by up to 11 percent and the number of days spent in stationary treatment can be reduced by up to 23 percent when patients receive constant care via telemedicine. Heidrun Grünewald, managing director of Carl-Thiem-Klinikum Cottbus, thinks that in the future it could be possible to also include women with high-risk pregnancies, diabetics, stroke patients and people requiring care in this type of care network.

As a member of Hungarian Telekom Group, ISH Informatika Kft. has been involved in the current & other e-Health projects since 2010. The co-operation as part of the Brandenburg telemedicine system programming tasks are carried out by ISH in record time. The project is not only a completely new application area, but also has completely new development approach for the company. The Management of ISH Informatika Kft. is confident that the telemedicine project is cost-effective and will support higher quality patient care without boundaries.
